HVAC, Heating, & Cooling FAQ
What types of heating and cooling systems do you install and service?
We install and service a wide range of HVAC equipment, including furnaces, central air conditioners, heat pumps, ductless mini splits, boilers, rooftop units, and complete heating and cooling systems.
How do I know if I should repair or replace my furnace or air conditioner?
It depends on the age and condition of the equipment, the cost and frequency of repairs, efficiency, and availability of replacement parts. Our technicians can evaluate your existing system and help you compare repair versus replacement options.
Do you install complete HVAC systems for new construction and remodels?
Yes. We can provide complete HVAC installation for new homes, additions, remodels, garages, and commercial projects. Depending on the project, this may include equipment, ductwork, ventilation, gas piping, controls, and other HVAC components.
Do you register newly installed HVAC equipment for the manufacturer’s warranty?
Yes. Air Systems Services registers qualifying new equipment after installation so that the applicable manufacturer’s warranty is properly documented. We also keep equipment information on file for easier reference if service or warranty work is needed in the future.
How often should my furnace and air conditioner be serviced?
We generally recommend routine maintenance each year. For homes with both heating and cooling equipment, a spring cooling visit and fall heating visit can help keep equipment clean, operating properly, and ready for the upcoming season.
Heat Pumps & Mini Splits FAQ
Do heat pumps and mini splits work well in Northern Minnesota?
Yes! Today’s cold-climate heat pumps and mini splits are designed to operate at much lower outdoor temperatures than older systems. Choosing the right equipment and properly sizing it for our Northern Minnesota climate is especially important, and supplemental heat may still be recommended depending on the application.
What is the difference between a ductless mini split and a traditional central HVAC system?
A ductless mini split heats and cools individual spaces using indoor units without traditional ductwork. A central HVAC system typically distributes conditioned air throughout the home using ductwork. The best option depends on your home’s layout, existing system, and heating and cooling needs.
Can a mini split heat and cool more than one room?
Yes. Multi-zone mini split systems can connect multiple indoor units to one outdoor unit, allowing you to heat and cool several areas independently. Single-zone systems are also available when you only need conditioning in one space.
Are rebates available for heat pumps and mini splits in Northern Minnesota?
Often, yes. Heat pump and mini split rebates vary depending on your electric utility, equipment, system size, and current rebate programs. Air Systems Services can help identify available rebates when we’re putting together your project.
Does Air Systems Services help customers with heat pump rebate paperwork?
Yes! When applicable, we help our customers complete and submit utility rebate paperwork for qualifying heat pump and mini split installations. We want to make sure our customers receive the rebates they’re eligible for without having to navigate the process on their own.
Boilers FAQ
Do you install and service boilers?
Yes. We install, repair, replace, and maintain boiler systems throughout our service area, including high-efficiency boilers and combination boilers for space heating and domestic hot water applications.
How often should a boiler be maintained?
We recommend having boiler equipment inspected and maintained annually. Routine maintenance can help identify potential issues, verify proper operation, and keep the system ready for our Northern Minnesota heating season.
Can you replace an older boiler with a high-efficiency boiler or combination boiler?
Yes. We can evaluate your existing boiler system and recommend replacement options based on the home’s heating needs. Depending on the application, a high-efficiency boiler or combination boiler may be a good replacement option.

Can your electrician handle the electrical work needed for a new furnace, air conditioner, heat pump, or mini split?
